Sam’s Southern Eatery Expands in Wichita with a Unique Drive-Through Model

A New Location with a Fresh Approach

Wichita is getting its third Sam’s Southern Eatery, and this time, there’s a new twist. Emanuel Ashiedu, a software engineer based in Salina, announced that the new restaurant will open at 6121 E. 21st St. This building, originally constructed as a Long John Silver’s in the 1980s and most recently home to Clouds — a daiquiri lounge turned Mediterranean restaurant — will soon serve up Sam’s well-loved Southern comfort food.

Introducing Drive-Through Service

For the first time in Wichita, Sam’s Southern Eatery will offer a drive-through option. Though this location will be smaller than the other Wichita branches, Ashiedu is excited to test the convenience and efficiency of the drive-through model. Drive-through customers will enjoy a limited menu featuring favorites like fried catfish, jumbo fried shrimp, and po' boy sandwiches, while indoor diners will have access to the full range of menu items available at the other locations.

Southern-Style Comfort Food Favorites

Founded in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 2008, Sam’s Southern Eatery has built a strong reputation for its authentic and flavorful Southern-style dishes. The menu includes a variety of fan favorites, such as fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, crab cakes, chicken wings, and fried oysters.

Growing the Brand Across Kansas

Ashiedu and his brother-in-law, Charles Scott, have been steadily expanding Sam’s Southern Eatery’s footprint in Kansas. Their first Wichita location opened in early 2024 in the former DeFazio’s space near 29th and Amidon, followed by a second location at 6600 W. Central later in the year.

Plans for Future Expansion

Ashiedu has even more plans for growth. He hopes to open another drive-through location on Wichita’s south side, bringing Sam’s Southern-style comfort food to even more neighborhoods.

Set to open in mid- to late March, the east-side location promises both drive-through convenience and a full dining experience inside.
